GENERATIVE VJ-ING

My next experience is to make a generative patch using quartz composer and controlling in Isadora Core Image.

I used some shaders, from QC examples and from Toneburst, and basic objects like sprite (plan), or cube. My first two versions were unsuccesful, my third test seems to work, and I have some nice speed results too:

SOFTWARE CHAOS

I’ve been using 2 softwares in the last 1 year.

The first is VDMX5 (still not final version). I was very happy with VDMX, because I found a modular or semi-modular system with a lot of possibilities, the most important for me was the quartz composer integration.
However I wrote some plugins. I searched the missing things, and I tried to complement with the quartz possibility.
I made a workshop in Rovaniemi (Lapland), about quartz composer and vdmx. Here is the handout of my workshop.
After several mounth, I attended a workshop of Solu in the MediaLab (Taik). She tried to involve us in the magical possiblities of Isadora (by Troikatronix). I tried 1 year ago this software, and I found like theater and dance visualizer soft. with a lot of interactive possibilties. But however I made a mistake, or my desires was in another level a year ago…

Now I found something in Isadora. After the workshop (where my final work was some funny and simple mash-up-lizer with wii-controller and ableton), I bought Isadora and the Core update. The core update lets us use the quartz composer projects as plugins. And also now I have access to the CI (CoreImage) filters.

In the last 2 mounths I developped two decent (for me at least :) patchs for isadora. The first one called “Anre” patch (Anre is my wife’s nick name). This patch is for normal video-based performance, without many effects, but with more scratch possibilities and divided screens etc.

The second one is more for abstraction, now with 4 channels video or generated visuals (one of this channel is for Quartz Visuals and all are sound reactive and mostly controlled by WII).
The idea of inventing this software came when I started to work with German-French musician guy, Roman (Moog Consp.), who asked me to make a special visual for his live acts. That was the moment when I felt, that a normal software background is not enough for me. The generative abstraction what I found in Isadora, was the basic of this work.

My current setup:

PBG4+Modul8 or Arkaos+EvolutionXpro
